Latest Photos – Isle of May – 12 May 2023

May 12, 2023

I’ve never been to the Isle of May, this early in the season, so this was the year I was determined to do the May in May!

I knew it would be slightly less frenetic this week, as the arctic terns wouldn’t be nesting yet & the puffins wouldn’t be feeding their young yet. I also felt that my emphasis on my last 4/5 trips was always on the puffins and this time I wanted to understand the layout of the island better and also appreciate the other birds a bit more.

This place really is fantastic and this ‘quieter’ trip was just as enjoyable as the others.  I was able to concentrate bit more on actual photography & take a bit more time on what my composition was like, what my backgrounds were like and play around with settings.  Some things worked, others didn’t but it was lovely to be able to think about what I was trying to do.  I never have time to do this on the Water of Leith, as everything can happen so fast; so is it was good to have the time.
