Finally managed to process & upload my Albino Squirrel photos!
These photos were taken from November 2021 to January 2022, at various locations along the Water of Leith & surrounding area.
I was very fortunate to come across this rare Albino Squirrel. At the time of writing, I understand that there are two in Edinburgh City, two in West Lothian, one in Dunfermline area & one in Deeside. These appear to be the only ones reported in the last 12 months but there are bound to be more.
Reports from the BBC & a number of newspapers suggest that there maybe as few as 50 in the whole of UK – another report suggests that there is only 1 albino squirrel born per 100,000 which would give and even lower figure of only 30 in UK. I have searched but cannot find the source of these figures. Regardless, it was a thrill to see this wee guy and to spend a bit of time photographing it from a distance – on several occasions it fell asleep in the tree & I would then slip away quietly. I never take moments like these for granted!
