Interesting dipper behaviour on the Water of Leith
I came across some really interesting dipper behaviour on the Water of Leith this week.
I was out on the river on 13 September photographing and filming dippers when one of them, (this wee guy below) caught my attention for something I hadn’t seen before.
Listen to it singing – after all, the dipper is the UK’s only aquatic songbird – but more importantly, watch its bill. It doesn’t appear to open or close it at all!
I honestly don’t remember ever filming a dipper behaving like this before, so it was a fascinating little discovery. It’s amazing what you can notice when you take the time to watch wildlife closely.
