Cammo Estate Nature Reserve

June 8, 2021

Cammo Estate Nature Reserve is a haven for birdlife on the edge of the City of Edinburgh.

You can hear woodpeckers drumming, at the start of the year. There are plenty of the usual smaller garden birds such as wrens, robins, sparrows, dunnocks, blackbirds, as well as great tits, blue tits, coal tits & long tailed tits. Plenty finches flock to the area but the nuthatches are always the ‘standout’ of the smaller birds for me.

Keep a close eye out for sparrowhawks, flying through the trees, at great pace and then suddenly making a sharp turn and taking one of the wee birds by surprise!

You’ll also see the occasional buzzard and roe deer as well.
