September 2024
September has been a short month for me, having taken the last 10 days off on holiday!
I started the month by finishing off a project, at the Forth Road Bridge – Wednesday 4th September marked the 60th anniversary of the Forth Road Bridge and I was very lucky to have a clear sunrise, on that day, to get the shot below. I was hoping to get some aurora shots this month but I never got myself into a position for that to happen. I did, however, manage to get alot of moon shots – the one below is almost a full moon, taken from the centre of Edinburgh.
The rest of the month was spent doing a lot of wildlife video footage, along the whole of the Water of Leith, using trail cameras, iPhone and my Nikon camera. During September, I was also trying to assess the kingfisher population, now that we have reached the end of the breeding season. There are still gaps where there are no resident kingfishers, as mentioned last month – Murrayfield, the Art Gallery section and Redbraes weir area. I do hope these areas see resident kingfishers soon. As we head into October and the leaves fall from the trees, it will be a lot easier seeing these wee guys.
And finally…
Delighted to say that a female otter has re-appeared on the Water of Leith – she has been picked up regularly, on the trail cameras, at night, over the last few weeks. I did managed to see her in daylight, early one morning, this month. She disappeared not long after the flooding at the end of May, so it’s great to see her back.
