As expected May has been a bumper month on the Water of Leith with lots of wildlife youngsters appearing for the first time on the water.
The moorhen chicks were the first ones that I spotted, closely followed by mallard ducklings, dipper chicks, cygnets in Leith & much more. One of my trail cameras captured a young roe deer kid which was less than 24 hours old – I haven’t photographed or filmed one that young!
It was lovely to see 5 kingfisher fledglings on the water but the monthly highlight for me, on the Water of Leith, was seeing a new otter cub appearing on the river, for the first time, at the end of May!
Alot of the above can be seen in my 2 minute monthly YouTube Video here – ‘Wildlife on the Water of Leith – May 2025’
Another highlight this month was spotting badgers, whilst it was light enough to get a photo or two! Away from the Water of Leith, the undoubted highlight of the month was photographing white tailed eagles for 5 hours, on a boat, on Loch Shiel at Glenfinnan.
