Latest Photos – 23 January 2022

January 23, 2022

2022 got off to a slow start, as the camera wasn’t used until the 2nd week in January.  It has, however, been used extensively everyday since then, at trips to Morton Lochs, Loch Leven & the River Leven, Bavelaw Marsh, Threpmuir Reservoir, Red Moss Nature Reserve, Almondell, Linlithgow Loch, River Almond, Aberlady Nature Reserve & several visits on the Water of Leith.

Highlights have been the kingfishers on the Water of Leith & the River Almond – without any leaves on the trees, they are easier to see.  Needless to say, the mild weather & low winter sunlight has also really helped.

Photos of the Red Squirrels at Morton Lochs have been uploaded on a previous post – click here to see them.  Here are some shots from the last couple of weeks.  One interesting shot is of the cormorant biting off more than it can chew on Linlithgow Loch.  The heron in the tree pic made it to the BBC Wildlife Magazine’s POTD & it is also on the BBC Scotland’s Picture Gallery this week.  The kingfisher shots are from the Water of Leith over 3 days & the River Almond over 2 days.
